About 2200 Music Foundation
2200 Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a bold mission: to preserve and celebrate a historic legacy while creating a vibrant, living music arts center that provides musicians and artists of all backgrounds with access to professional recording facilities, hands-on educational programs, and creative resources. Our vision goes further — to confront the biggest challenges facing today’s artists: fair monetization, meaningful exposure, and strong advocacy.
Mission and Vision
Operating from the historic Record Plant Recording Studio in Sausalito, California, this project is not just about saving a building. It’s about safeguarding a vital part of music heritage, while fostering opportunities for creativity, education, and community impact.
2200 Music Foundation has 3 primary core initiatives:
1. Preserve an historic cultural icon
Virtually rescued from the wrecking ball, this landmark still faces the threat of permanent closure and sale. The 2200 Music Foundation is uniquely positioned to purchase the property - including with the studio assets – and elevate this cultural gem to its next chapter. With strong support from the city and community, the Plant is once again poised to reclaim its place as a powerhouse of music history and innovation.
2. Support educational programming
We call it a “Teaching Studio”. Fundraising and studio operations directly support the Foundation’s mission to deliver unique music and recording education programs. Cash flows and excess operating revenue – along with charitable contributions - will be reinvested to enhance and expand the educational facilities and to develop programs to advance 2200 Music Foundations charter.
3. Provide a community cultural hub
In addition to existing recording studio operations, 2200 Music Foundation intends to work with the City of Sausalito to protect the building through historical building designations. To expand the cultural hub, in addition to our on-site event spaces, we seek to partner with the city to use the adjacent Marinship Park to create a community space that can be supported by and tied to 2200 Studios for public concerts and cultural events. These initiatives will open access to the cultural hub for generations to come.
